IRISL said Tuesday that it could process 100,000 TEUs this calendar year, significantly increasing its annual TEU processing record.
The company said an increase in TEU handling occurred despite continued pressure on US sanctions on Iran’s economy and continued pressure on trade relations with the world, Press TV reported.
He said TEU activity in Chabahar, Iran’s only sea port in the Sea of Oman, has risen significantly, adding that at the end of the current calendar year in late March, the port’s TEU volume will reach around 100,000 units.
IRISL added that Chabahar’s TEU volume is expected to increase by 50% in the calendar year next year, with shipping companies expanding their activities in major regions and international ports, including countries that are members of the independent state bloc of Russia and Eurasia.
Iran has seen a significant rise in maritime trade in recent years amid the country’s efforts to diversify its economy from exporting crude oil.
Iran’s southern and northern ports report an increase in loading and unloading activities as regional and international customers are increasingly using freight transport routes passing through the country.
Figures released last month by Iranian ports and maritime organizations showed that total TEU loading and loading at Iranian ports would increase by 12% annually from late February to late February to close to 2,843 million units.
