CAIR’s request followed a Washington Post report that cited a study by a U.S. government watchdog that revealed “hundreds” of potential human rights violations by the Israeli military. The human rights violations were so widespread that investigators say it could take years to fully investigate.
Under the Leahy Act, Washington is required to end support for foreign military units involved in serious human rights abuses. Despite this, successive US administrations have avoided accountability for the Israeli regime, Al Jazeera reported.
“Our country has been tainted by the support of regimes from both major parties for these atrocities and the fact that many of them were carried out using American-made weapons. This must end,” said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad.
He added, “The Leahy Act must apply to the genocidal Israeli government. No more American weapons should be used to slaughter innocent men, women, and children.”
