He made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassim al-Araji in Tehran on Tuesday.
“Once unity and unity are established among Islamic countries, the plots of the United States and the Zionist regime against the countries of the region will go nowhere,” the president said.
Mr. Pezeshkian continued to point out that the connection of Iran and Iraq’s rail transport network is one of the most important areas of cooperation, saying, “Accelerating the implementation of this project by the Iraqi government will not only strengthen trade, economic and cultural ties between the two countries, but also pave the way for broader connectivity and strengthening economic ties between the countries of the region.”
The President emphasized the Islamic Republic’s insistence on maintaining unity among Islamic countries, saying, “We consider all the peoples of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to be our brothers, regardless of ethnic or religious differences, and believe that the secret of the honor and pride of the Islamic State lies in strengthening fraternal bonds and avoiding internal conflicts caused by enemies.”
Iraq’s National Security Advisor expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, saying, “The security of Iran and Iraq are intertwined.The Iraqi government emphasizes its full commitment to the security treaty between the two countries.”
Al-Araj also stressed that from the perspective of the Iraqi Prime Minister and Kurdistan Regional Government officials, the Iran-Iraq border should be the safest in the region and there is no threat to Iran from there.
He continued to consider the railway link between Iran and Iraq a strategic measure, adding: “This plan will lead to economic and political integration between the two countries. For this reason, the Iraqi government firmly supports it.”
At the end of the meeting, Kurdistan Region Interior Minister Rebel Ahmad expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to meet, stating, “Dr. Pezeshkian’s visit to the Kurdistan Region has left a very positive impact on the political and public level.”
The Iraqi Kurdish official added: “The Kurdistan Region’s approach is to support the stability and security of the Islamic Republic of Iran under any circumstances. We emphasize our full commitment to the security agreement between our two countries and are taking practical steps in this direction.”
