Two Israeli missiles crashed into a building inside Maine Gaza Hospital on Sunday, destroying the emergency and reception department and damaging other structures, Medick said.
The Gaza Strip’s health ministry said air raids at Al-Ara Arab Baptist Hospital destroyed some of Gaza’s last functional hospitals.
Health officials moved the patient out of the building after one person said they received a call from Israeli forces and those who identified themselves shortly before the attack took place.
One patient died during evacuation as medical staff were unable to provide emergency care, the health ministry said.
The Israeli military was investigating the report, a spokesperson said.
Images circulating on social media that Reuters could not immediately verify, showed dozens of people leaving the property, with some appearing to be dragging sick relatives into hospital beds.
Hospital director Dr. Fadel Naim said he had been warned of the attack in advance. In a post on social media site X, he wrote that emergency rooms, pharmacies and surrounding buildings have been severely damaged, affecting more than 100 patients and dozens of medical staff.
The ministry said the strikes destroyed outpatients and laboratory wards and destroyed emergency wards.
Hamas media office condemned the attack, saying in a statement that Israel was deliberately destroying Gaza’s health care system.
Israeli forces have carried out numerous attacks at medical facilities in the enclave.
The strike comes hours after Israeli war minister said military operations would expand rapidly across Gaza.
Israel announced the completion of the Morag Corridor on Saturday, cutting off the city of Rafa south from other parts of Gaza, saying that invasion forces will soon expand “strongly” over most of the small coastal territory.
Israeli authorities have vowed to put pressure on Hamas to release the remaining 59 hostages.
Separate strikes at the enclave on Sunday killed the head of Khan Yunis police station, Hamas media said.
At least eight more people, including a woman, were killed further north, according to WAFA, the official Palestinian communications agency. There were no immediate Israeli comments on these reports.
Since October 2023, more than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza. Much of Gaza is in abandoned areas, and most of its population is evacuated.
