Since rebels overthrew Bashar al-Assad’s government in December, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes in Syrian military locations, claiming to prevent weapons from falling into the hands of the new regime.
“Some time ago, Israeli forces struck the remaining military strategic capabilities at Tadmur and T4’s Syrian military bases,” the Israeli forces said in a statement, referring to an additional 50 km (30 miles) of the Palmyra base and the city.
Previously, the UK-based Syrian Human Rights Observatory said “Israeli fighter jets targeted Palmyra’s military airport.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for the demilitarization of southern Syria, saying his country would not tolerate the presence of troops from new authorities south of the capital Damascus.
The occupation regime has launched numerous attacks and attacks on Syria since December, particularly in the country’s southwestern part of Damascus.
Israel has also been accused of stirring up the country’s sectarian tensions by insisting that it wanted to protect the minority Druze community following the recent clash in Damascus.
