Israel is claiming responsibility for the killing of longtime spokesman Abu Obaida, Hamas military unit, Ezedin Al-Kassam Brigade, in the airstrike that destroyed a residential block in Gaza city’s Al-Rimal district on Saturday.
Local health workers said the strike killed and injured many civilians, including children. Hamas has not confirmed his death, but Palestinian sources and activists suggest a possible martial.
Witnesses described the tragic scene after at least five missiles struck the apartment. Earth journalists reported at least seven deaths and 20 injuries, but some outlets raised the casualties.
Residents said the blast threw tile rubs and wreckage across the street as the horrifying family rushed over to attract children from the wreckage. “I saw the injured children covering their faces,” Mohamed Emad, a barber working nearby, told the BBC.
Israeli officials, including the Minister of War Israel Katz, welcomed the attack as a “perfect operation” and praised military intelligence and Singh Bett. However, Palestinian sources emphasized that the real victim was a civilian whose homes had been destroyed.
Born in 1985 by Hudayfa Samir Abdallah Al-Kahlout, Abu Obaida appeared in 2002 as the voice of the mask of the Alcasam Brigade. He was known for his rebellious televised statements and his major operations, including Girad Sharit’s detention in 2006 and the recovery of Oron Scholl’s body in 2014.
A graduate of the Islamic University in Gaza, he became a central figure in the group’s media campaigns, and made clear the resolve of Palestinians who often resist the profession.
Since October 2023, the Israeli war with Gaza has killed more than 63,000 people and injured more than 159,000 people.
Even if Israel’s claims prove true, Abu Obida’s legacy sees such sacrifices as part of a generational struggle for freedom, as it appears that a steady voice of resistance is likely to endure among the Palestinians.
Despite repeated assassinations of advanced players, the Palestinian resistance continues to work, often underscoring that martialism only strengthens its cause.
