In a statement issued on International Women’s Day, Salama Maarouf added that the killing violated international humanitarian law and “occurred before a free world that advocated for women’s rights and the defense of journalists.”
“Their status as women did not protect them from the Israeli army, and their journalistic immunity could not protect them from the murderous body,” he added.
Maarouf also accused the international community of “unable to take substantive action,” and he thought “many reactions are limited to statements of condemnation,” which he thought was “hypocritical and inadequate.”
The Gaza Strip is ravaged by the Israeli war, bringing women and children to the brunt of violence. Together they accounted for 70% of the deaths, reaching 46,960 by January 19, 2025, according to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
Since January 19th, a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement have been introduced in Gaza, halting Israel’s brutal war.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former war minister Joab Gallant.
Israel is also facing a genocide case for military operations at the International Court of Justice.
