Tehran – Another journalist died after an Israeli attack on a media tent in Gaza.
Journalist Ahmed Mansoor died of serious injuries after being injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a media tent near the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Eunice in southern Gaza.
Mansoor, the father of the two, suffered serious burns in the attack and died shortly afterwards in the hospital.
The terrorist attacks took place on Monday, claiming the lives of fellow journalists Hilmi al-Faqawi and Youssef al-khzandar. Several others were injured.
The strike ignited a catastrophic fire at a media camp, and witnesses explaining the horrifying scenes of journalists engulfed in flames while locals desperately trying to put out the flames.
The viral video showed Mansoor burning at Inferno. Freelance photographer Abedshart explained the moment to Al Jazeera:
“I started taking photos from afar, but as I approached the burning tent, I saw one of my colleagues on fire. I couldn’t continue filming.”
“I don’t even know how he found the courage to approach the flames and pull him out. The fire was getting stronger. The gas canister exploded, and the other person was still on fire.”
“I tried to pull him out with his feet, but his pants were torn apart by my hand. I tried from a different angle, but I couldn’t.”
Mansoor’s death was confirmed on Tuesday. Other journalists injured in the attack include Hassan Asri, Ahmed al-Aga, Mohamed Feyek, Abdullah al-Atar, Ihab al-Baldini, Mahmoud Awad and Majed Kudei.
The Palestinian media parliament condemned the bombing and lamented the loss of Al-Faqawi, who reported for Palestinian news agency today.
The International Commission supporting the rights of Palestinians said targeting journalists constitutes war crimes and aims to silence the silence of Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Social media was raging as they denounced what activists called systematic targeting of journalists and denounced some of the broader human rights abuses against civilians.
Under international humanitarian law, journalists should be protected in conflict zones, but continue to face fatal violence.
Mansour’s death brings the total number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 7th to over 211.
In response, the Gaza Government Media Office issued a statement
“The number of journalists who have taught since the start of the Genocide War in Gaza has risen to 211, including journalist Hilmi al-Faqawi, who died immediately on a strike near Nasser Hospital, and Ahmed Mansour, who later succumbed to injuries.
“We strongly condemn the deliberate targeting and assassination of Palestinian journalists due to Israeli occupation. We call on the Federation of International Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists around the world, and the press around the world to condemn these systemic crimes.”
“We are fully responsible for this heinous act of Israel’s occupation, the US regime, and other accomplices, such as the UK, Germany, and France.”
“We urge the international community, human rights groups and journalistic organisations to condemn these crimes, pursue justice in international courts and take meaningful actions to stop genocide. Immediate efforts are needed to protect journalists and to stop the murder of Gaza media representatives.”
“We wish for our martial colleagues mercy and paradise, the comfort of our family and the Palestinian press, and the prompt recovery of those injured.”
