On Wednesday, Israel carried out a series of powerful strikes in Damascus, the Syrian capital, which includes the Syrian Ministry of Defense, near the Presidential Palace. This escalation in the Israeli regime’s campaign has supported Arab minority groups in Sweida, and has resulted in many casualties following days of clashes.
Amidst the violence, Syrian government and Druze leaders have historically been at the forefront of opposition against former President Bashar Assad and are now opposed to Shara’s government, reaching a ceasefire on Wednesday.
As tensions rise, Israel appears to be strategically positioning it to exploit the ongoing vulnerability of the Syrian government. This pointed to the deep, sitting-infided mistrust that characterizes the relations between these two countries.
“I think the situation is very dangerous,” he said.
Politicians warned that Israel’s actions could further destabilise the Syrian government, where Israel’s actions are struggling, and that the dynamics of power within Syria could be restructured. The developments have broad consequences for local safety, he added.
“We’ll see if this will lead to a critical change in power or plunge the region into further chaos, but one thing is clear: Damascus trap sets can have wide-ranging results, far beyond that boundary,” Ahmed said.
