Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Director-General Mohammad Eslami, speaking at the international conference “International Law Under Attack: Offense and Defense” held in Tehran, criticized that “some states are abusing the oversight structure of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and hindering its professional and law-based implementation.”
At the forum, Eslami said that at the General Assembly to be held in Vienna in 2025, Iran proposed a ban on attacks on nuclear facilities under the supervision of the IAEA, adding: “However, the United States opposed the proposal and prevented the issue from being raised, even though the protection of nuclear facilities is a global need, as the threat of attack affects all countries.”
The AEOI director said, “The information provided to the IAEA is confidential and should not be used as a tool for intimidation or abuse by adversaries. In recent years, dozens of research centers in the United States and Europe have continually produced content and created narratives targeting Iran’s nuclear program.”
These actions show that the goal is not simply to destroy facilities, but to weaken Iran’s national power and deterrence, he added.
