TEHRAN – Over the past two days (Saturday and Sunday), multiple Israeli missile strikes have been targeted by multiple Israeli missile strikes within three kilometres of Taq-e Bostan, one of Iran’s most important Sasanian-era archaeological complexes near Karmansha.
The attacks created violent trembling that shook the ancient sites, raising urgent concerns about irreversible damage to this destructive cultural treasure.
Taq-e Bostan, listed on the Iranian National Heritage List and on UNESCO’s provisional list of World Heritage Status, consists of a series of monumental rock relief, including two majestic arched niches and independent sculptures commemorating the king of Sasania. The surrounding area also evacuates very important Paleolithic sites (Barwashi, Kobe, do-ashkaft, and Malaverd Caves).
Sunday’s latest strike directly hit Sark Lisé’s thousand-year-old rock art site near Emmam Reza Hospital, confirming the horrors of aggressive destruction. Experts warn that the loss of these 12,000-year-old cultural landmarks represents a devastating blow to global human heritage and calls for immediate international attention to prevent further damage.
