Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen has argued that the Gaza Strip should remain in ruins without reconstruction for decades, media reports said.
Speaking to Israeli Channel 14 TV, Cohen said that Israel would not be trying to help rebuild Gaza’s destroyed infrastructure.
“Gaza should remain abandoned for decades without rebuilding,” he said.
US President Donald Trump has previously announced that Israel has accepted the conditions necessary for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. The proposal was presented to Hamas by Katari and Egyptian mediators.
Hamas said he was actively responding and was ready to proceed with negotiations to exchange ceasefires and hostages.
Israel argued that Hamas’ amendments to Qatar’s proposal were unacceptable, but the delegation still travelled to Doha for discussion.
The negotiations in Doha focus on debates about a temporary 60-day ceasefire, the release of 10 lives and 18 dead Israelis hostages, and a permanent ceasefire.
