In reports of increased suicide rates, Israeli fighting veterans urged Tel Aviv to quickly address concerns from soldiers returning from the war in Gaza.
In an interview with Israeli public broadcasters, Kang Tsachi Atedagi, advocate for protecting soldiers’ mental health, said that 10 soldiers have recently taken their lives in less than two weeks.
“We’re screaming. Enough is enough,” Atedagi told Kang Network B’s program this morning.
“Many combat veterans are roaming around the city, and it’s very difficult for us (to get help) with all the bureaucracies around,” he said.
“Sometimes, combat veterans can’t wait 24 hours,” he added, citing several reports of soldiers who committed suicide while awaiting health interventions from the government.
Earlier this week, Israeli era reported that soldiers were seriously injured in apparent suicide attempts during training in southern Israel.
In January 2025, the Israeli Army reported that 28 soldiers had taken their lives since the start of the war, marking the highest casualties in 13 years.
Several cases of suicides by soldiers have been reported since then, but official tallies will not be released by the Israeli military until the end of the year.
