Local sources reported that the arrest involved intentional acts of vandalism as soldiers attacked Al-Raham’s residence, destroyed furniture and confiscated a personal cell phone belonging to him and his family.
The arrest sparked widespread criticism from Palestinian political and media circles. Palestinian political activist Sinan Shakdeh told Al Mayaden, “The arrest of journalist Nasser al-Raham has several meanings, most notably his efforts to target the story to challenge the Israeli version of the events surrounding the ongoing genocide.”
This latest move comes as part of a broader and systematic campaign aimed at journalists and media businesses in occupied Palestine. In late October 2023, Israeli forces attacked Al-Raham’s house, attacked his wife and children, conducted an invasive search, and detained two sons, Basil and Basel.
Meanwhile, Al Mayaden correspondent Hanaa Mahamid continues to face repeated threats from Israeli authorities in an attempt to curb independent media coverage from the occupying territories.
The Israeli government has updated the ban on Almayaden’s business, confiscated broadcast equipment and blocked its website in crackdowns on the network amid ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip and widespread attacks in the West Bank.
