Local sources and witnesses told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes and drones targeted houses and apartments in various parts of the Gaza Strip, particularly in the Sabra and Tal al-Hawa districts south of Gaza City, the Shati refugee camp to the west of the city, and the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.
Israeli artillery also shelled apartment buildings in the al-Rimal district of central Gaza City, as well as areas around al-Zeitoun, al-Sabra, Tal al-Hawa, Shujaiyah, and al-Tufa.
According to sources and witnesses, a military vehicle loaded with explosives exploded near a residential area.
Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told Xinhua that at least 10 people were killed and several others injured in airstrikes and shelling in the Gaza Strip, particularly in Gaza City.
Gaza residents reported clashes between Palestinian militants and Israeli forces east of Khan Yunis amid gunfire from low-flying helicopters.
Israeli radio reported that Hamas militants attacked Israeli military positions, firing mortar and anti-tank missiles, killing at least one soldier and wounding five others.
There was no comment from Hamas or the Israeli military regarding these developments on the ground.
The attack came as indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas continued for the second day in a row in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
