Israeli forces flattened the farmland, cleared the entire residential area of Gaza, and opened “kill zones” around the enclave, according to reports from Israeli rights groups that broke the silence.
I quoted soldiers who served in Gaza while creating the buffer zone. This was expanded to a depth of 800-1500 meters (875-1,640 yards) within the enclave by December, and was then further expanded by Israeli forces.
“The boundaries are kill zones, low areas and low lying,” the report cites the captain of the Armored Squadron saying.
Soldiers said using bulldozers and excavators, the army used thousands of mines and explosives to destroy around 3,500 buildings and agricultural and industrial areas essential to postwar reconstruction.
“Essentially, everything is reaped,” the report says the reserve soldiers serving the armored squadrons. “All buildings and all structures.”
Another soldier said the area looked “like Hiroshima.”
