Palestinian Medical Relief Society director Bassam Zakuout described a chaotic scene at aid distribution point following the fatal Israeli attack in Rafa.
“People have been walking miles from early in the morning, trying to reach a limited aid point. Now there are only four people across Gaza. Everything is surrounded by Israeli soldiers. When the crowd feels growing and out of control, the soldiers set fire to those waiting for supplies.
Zaqout added that Gaza’s health care system has been overwhelmed.
“The hospital operates with very limited resources. Medical staff are forced to focus solely on the lives-saving procedures of those injured. Patients with non-critical or mild injuries will receive basic treatment and be able to recover,” he said.
“But seriously injured people who need more advanced treatment… doctors are working with them to stabilise the situation… and some of them are on the waiting list along with thousands of other injured people to reach health assistance outside of the Gaza Strip.”
