In an interview with CNN, Witkov reiterated on Sunday, saying that no war has to happen and that no matter who starts it, it must come to an end.
“There was no need for a war to happen. It was provoked. That doesn’t necessarily mean it was caused by the Russians,” he said, TRT reported.
“There were all sorts of conversations about Ukraine joining NATO back then. The president talked about this. It didn’t have to happen. It basically poses a threat to the Russians,” he said. added.
“There was a lot of what was called a Cogent and a substantial negotiation surrounded by what was called the Istanbul Protocol Contract. We were very close to signing something. We were in the process of signing something between Ukraine and Russia. The peace agreement, and I think it will be a great day.”
