The novel, which lasted decades in 20th century Italy, focuses on the turbulent relationship between a poor sculptor named Michelangelo “Mimo” Vitaliani and Viola Orsini, the daughter of a powerful aristocratic family.
In an Italian monastery, the infamous sculptor is on his deathbed. During Mimo’s final hours, he reveals the story of his life: his poor childhood, his rise to fame, and most importantly, his encounter with Viola.
Born poorly, Mimo is a student of an in-sized stone sculptor. But he is a genius in his hands. On the other hand, almost all fairies have seen Viola Orsini. A famous family heir, she spent her childhood in the shadows of the palace in Genoa. However, she is too ambitious to resign to the place she was assigned to.
Mimo and Viola are instantly drawn to each other. Together, they cross the unrest of the 20th century. Mimo becomes a well-known artist, but Viola fights to assert her education and independence.
At first glance, they recognize each other and never swear to leave each other. Viola and Mimo cannot live together or separate from each other for a long time. Bound by unshakable charm, they experience years of rage when Italy falls into fascism.
Over the decades, they lose and find each other, but they never give up on the love they share.
