Syrian self-declared President Ahmed Sharaa was previously known as Abu Muhem al-Jolani. On Saturday, it announced an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in southern Sweida province after exacerbating regional violence and worsened humanitarian conditions.
The presidency urged all sides (tribal people and Druze fighters) to fully comply with the resolution, highlighting the role of Syrian state, its institutions, and the forces in carrying out ceasefires responsibly. The statement added that the goal is to restore stability and strengthen the constitution.
Reports show that Syrian security forces are beginning to deploy in several areas of Sweida to maintain public order, ensure protection of civilians and their property, and promote access to humanitarian aid. The presidency also called on all parties to immediately stop hostilities in all areas, without exception.
However, media reports a new clash at Sweida on Saturday despite the ceasefire.
Since the collapse of Assad’s government, Syria has been tackling unrest and civil war.
