Khwarizmi International Award
It is established that today’s strong scientific and technical foundations are extremely important for the economic development of the country. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, concerns were rising in the country about the development of science and technology.
In 1987, the Iranian Institute of Science and Technology (IROST), affiliated with the Ministry of Science and Technology, decided to award an award recognising Iran’s outstanding achievements in the field of science and technology.
IROST proposed the creation of the Kwaritsumi Award in commemoration of Abujafar Mohamad Ibn Maska Kwarizmi, the great Iranian mathematician and astronomer (770-840 CE).
In 1987, the first session of the Khwarizmi Award called on Iranian people to present notable contributions, inventions or innovations.
The fifth session of the Khwarizmi Awards created a foreign section and the Khwarizmi Awards became international.
In 1997, Iranian researchers and scientists living abroad were invited to participate in this honorable scientific competition.
International organizations such as APCTT, Colombo Plan, Comsats, Comstech, Eco, Eco Cultural Institute (ECI), FAO, ICARDA, IOR-ARC (RCSTT), ISESCO, TWAS, UNESCO, UNIDO, WAIDRO, and WIPO will assign special awards to Kia Laureates.
Every year, the fields of participation at KIA are expanding, attracting more scientists from around the world. Today, the Khwarizmi International Award continues to pursue successful courses with more participation and more international recognition.
KIA recognizes the efforts made by researchers, innovators and inventors around the world, and seeks to recognize the valuable results and contributions to various fields of science and technology. Kia is held every year.
