North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called for further development of the alliance with Russia in a meeting with Russian Security Council Vice Chairman and United Russia Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
The meeting between Medvedev and the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea took place on October 10th. Kim Jong-un welcomed Medvedev’s visit to North Korea, calling it “a symbol of the Russian people’s firm support and unity for the cause of the Korean Workers’ Party.” He said this visit will be an important moment to further dynamically expand and develop Korea-Russia relations, which have reached a new level, into a strong and comprehensive strategic relationship. It’s about partnership and alliance,” KCNA reported.
During Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Pyongyang in June 2024, Russia and North Korea signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement that includes the provision of military assistance in the event of an armed attack on either country.
Medvedev was one of the main guests on stage with Kim Jong Un at a parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
