TEHRAN – Managing Director of the Kish Free Zone Organization Mohammad Kabiri and Ambassador of Armenia to Iran Grigor Hakovian stressed the promotion of tourism and economic cooperation at a joint gathering held on the occasion of Kish Inbex 2025 on the southern Iranian island on Wednesday.
According to IRNA, the two leaders also exchanged views on establishing direct flights between Yerevan and Kish.
They also discussed ways to expand exchanges in the fields of tourism, economy and culture.
Kabiri said that the main purpose of inviting ambassadors from different countries to Kish was to showcase the unique capabilities of the historic island, and that the meeting included constructive discussions.
It added: “Although the initial focus of our discussions was on the development of tourism and the possibility of opening direct flights between Yerevan and Kish, this issue requires a formal process, and the initial negotiations in this regard went well, and both sides expressed a serious desire to advance it.”
“We are currently considering a route for transporting goods from Yerevan to the Persian Gulf region via Kish, and we hope that this cooperation will lead to practical results in the near future.”
The Armenian envoy also expressed his satisfaction with his stay in Kish Island, saying, “Kish boasts of many capabilities and facilities.I think we can start new cooperation between Armenia and Kish, especially in the field of tourism.”
Hakobyan added that as a first step, it is proposed that a group of Armenian tourism activists, bloggers, prominent and influential figures visit Kish Island and experience first-hand the island’s potential.
