The Yoss coast guard, about 320 kilometres south of Seoul, said the South Korean Times had fired on a 2,692-ton tanker and a 24-ton cargo ship.
Authorities say that all 18 crew members (14 people in the tanker and four people in the cargo ship) were rescued, but the captain of the small ship was unconscious and was later declared dead. Authorities say two foreign crew members of the oil tanker were burned and burned.
The fire disappeared around 7:45am, but the cause was not immediately known.
The tankers contained about 2,500 tonnes of toxic chemicals, but as of Saturday morning they couldn’t confirm whether those chemicals had spilled into the port’s water, according to the Coast Guard.
