Tehran – Kuwait has expressed support for the progress made in the second round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, praised Oman and Italy for their role in fostering consultations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Kuwait Foreign Ministry welcomed the announcement from the Oman Foreign Ministry about the agreement reached between the two countries in the second round discussion in Rome, Italy. The Ministry has also approved the decision to proceed to the next phase of consultation, with the aim of achieving a permanent and binding agreement.
“The Kuwait Foreign Ministry appreciates this step, reflecting the parties’ commitment to continuing dialogue based on progress achieved,” the statement read. “Kuwait fully supports diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts through dialogues that contribute to regional and international stability.”
Kuwait also thanked the Sultan of Oman for speaking and holding Italy for promoting the second round of negotiations.
On Saturday, Oman’s Foreign Ministry confirmed an agreement to take the next phase of debate between Iran and the US. According to the Oman statement, the goal is to reach a fair, lasting and binding agreement.
The statement outlined the key points of the potential agreement, including ensuring Iran’s nuclear disarmament, lifting economic sanctions entirely, and maintaining Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
The Oman ministry emphasized that ongoing dialogue and clear communication will continue to be the only path to a reliable and comprehensive agreement that benefits all stakeholders, both regionally and internationally.
The second round of indirect talks between Iran and the US was mediated by Oman and concluded in Rome as scheduled on Saturday. The third round of negotiations is scheduled to take place next week.
Ismail Baghai, a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also commented on the end of the second round, writing on his X account:
He further agreed to resume indirect consultations at the technical level in the coming days, and announced discussions at the senior negotiator level scheduled for Saturday, May 6th.
