TEHRAN – Ali Akbar Verayati, a senior adviser on international affairs to leaders of the Islamic Revolution, has likened President Donald Trump’s recent foreign policy towards Adolf Hitler’s aggressive actions before World War II, warning that history may repeat itself.
Verayati said political analysts view Trump as pursuing a path previously tested by Hitler, who threatened the Western world in 1939 with the outbreak of World War II. According to Velayati, Trump is following a similar path without learning from past mistakes. The course is unlikely to end in a favorable way.
He cited Trump’s Alaska agreement without consulting with a unilateral allies that backfired, noting that the Shanghai Cooperation Agency (SCO) Summit quickly unveiled the limitations of his approach. Belayati said that Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un’s congratulations on the US on Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong-un’s position on the US welcomed the SCO Summit as one of the most important international gatherings in recent history.
Verayati criticized Trump’s treatment of European allies, describing it as humiliating and negative, suggesting that his attempt to recreate a bipolar world similar to the post-Yalatta order would be increasingly ineffective. He resembles Hitler, noting that Trump’s ignorance of established agreements and international norms reflects the actions of German dictators before the outbreak of World War II.
The advisors emphasized that Iran, along with China and Russia, is currently playing a central role in shaping global issues. He said the SCO Summit demonstrated the growing influence of these independent forces and the ability to maintain sovereignty while countering unilateral US actions. In particular, Iran has demonstrated its strengths through local actions, including responses in a 12-day conflict with Israel, demonstrating both strategic capabilities and resolution.
Reflecting the broader meaning, Velayati said the world is heading towards a multipolar order as SCO and BRICS countries are shaping their future. He emphasized that Iran’s unity, strong leadership and strategic vision are setting up a critical role in this new global landscape. Using historical examples from the Holy Qur’an and Persian history, he emphasized the continuity of leadership, justice and peace pursuits, portraying Iran as a steady and influential actor in a rapidly changing world.
