Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated his call for strong intervention from the international community to halt the attacks and prevent the situation from escalating, returning tensions to the region, Al-Manar TV EN website reported.
President Aoun deemed Israel’s targeting of Beirut’s southern suburbs this afternoon, coinciding with Independence Day, as “further proof that Israel ignores repeated calls to cease its attacks on Lebanon and refuses to implement international resolutions and all efforts and initiatives aimed at halting escalation and restoring stability not only in Lebanon but in the entire region.”
He added: “After nearly a year of promising a cessation of hostilities and presenting one initiative after another, Lebanon takes responsibility for itself and once again calls on the international community to intervene strongly and seriously to prevent attacks on Lebanon and its people, to prevent an escalation that would return tensions to the region, and to avoid further bloodshed.”
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stressed that the attack on Beirut’s Dahiyeh requires a united effort led by state institutions.
Salam added that Lebanon will continue to use all political and diplomatic measures with friendly countries to protect the Lebanese people.
Loyal Resistance Bloc lawmaker Ali Ammar said Israel’s enemies have been attacking all areas of Lebanon since the ceasefire was announced.
The Iranian embassy in Beirut commented on the Israeli attack on Dahieh and asserted that no dastardly attack can break the resolve of the righteous.
Enemy Israeli forces launched an airstrike on Sunday afternoon targeting residential apartments in the town of Haret Lake on the southern outskirts of the capital Beirut. The attack left five people martyred and 28 injured, causing extensive damage to the area and affecting many nearby commercial facilities.
