BEIRUT – Lebanon’s Supreme Defence Council, led by President Joseph Aung, has issued a shocking warning to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) against using Lebanon as an arena to infringe on Lebanon’s sovereignty and putting Lebanon at risk.
This warning was not prioritized either directly or through established communication channels between Palestinian factions and Lebanon’s political and security authorities, while doubting its timing and purpose.
Moreover, it coincided with a hostile media campaign led by an anti-resistance team run in favor of US Spiden (embassy) against Hamas.
Israel-supported Washington is putting unprecedented pressure on disarming Lebanon’s Palestinian camps as needed and contain activities of the General Front for the Liberation of Lebanon’s Palestinian Resistance facts, particularly Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Islamic Jihad and the Palestine General Front (PFLP) in particular.
Aoun’s position corresponds to a call to cancel the 1969 Cairo Agreement legalizing Palestinian military operations in Lebanon.
An informed Palestinian source confirmed to the Tehran Times that this incredible move was not preceded by serious debate with Palestinian authority represented by Lebanon by the Palestinian Embassy.
Sources noted that the last two meetings, hosted by Ramez Dimashqieh, head of the Lebanon-Palestinian Dialogue Committee and attended by several Palestinian ministries and factions representatives, did not address the issue of arms at all.
An informed Palestinian source told the Tehran Times it was proposed to hold Palestinian weapons in the hands of the Fatah movement to control the camp matters.
Sources added that the Defense Council’s announcement may be premature as there is no final decision yet on the mechanism of the Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue.
An informed Palestinian source warned of the involvement of Lebanese soldiers in smuggling weapons into camps for use, consistent with the expected visit of Mahmoud Abbas, president of Lebanon’s Palestinian authorities.
What’s surprising is that the visit will take place after Palestinian and Lebanese leaders decide to reopen the PLO office in Beirut.
Communication took place between Congress President Navi Beli and Hamas civil servant Khaled Messhar after the launch of a “suspecting” rocket to the Palestinian territory occupied by Lebanon, communication took place between Congress President Navi Beli and Hamas civil servant Khaled Meshar.
Meshar confirmed Hamas’ openness to any dialogue regarding camp weapons, saying, “We are for dialogue that mitigates the situation in Lebanon.”
It is noteworthy that the Arjurani forces (Ahmed Alshara squad) have arrested two Palestinian leaders from the Arkudos Brigade, the military division of the Islamic Jihadist movement.
The arrest came after US President Donald Trump’s administration issued a new political directive that required the Hyatt Taharil al-Sham government to “take strict measures against extremist groups and expel Palestinian factions from the country.
The WSJ said the US administration has pledged to deport foreign leaders with the aim of banning political or military activities by Palestinian factions and “to alleviate Israeli concerns.”
The timing of the arrest raised serious questions given that despite its presence in Syria, the Islamic jihadist movement maintained neutrality in Syria’s foreign-backed rebellion that had been ongoing for over a decade. Unlike the other factions, it did not engage in the battle with the Bashar al-Assad government.
