Former Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Galeb Nasser al-Rahawi al-Yafei was, in short, assassinated by an airstrike by the Yemeni regime on Thursday, August 28, 2025. He has been Sanaa’s Futiansarla-led prime minister since August 10, 2024.
In the life and legacy of Ahmed al-Rahawi
According to information available online, Ahmed Galeb Nasser Al-Rahawi was Abian Governor of Southern Yemen and was born into the influential Al-Rahawi tribe. His father, Galeb Nasser Al Rahawi, was also a political figure before his assassination in the 1970s. Coming from a politician gave Ahmed al-Rahawi a path to public service where he built a reputation as a practical manager.

Before rising to national prominence, Al Rahawi served in several local government positions. He was the director and chairman of the Camphor district, then the Lieutenant Governor of Almawitt and later Governor of Governor Avian. These roles gave him the experience of managing Yemen’s highly fractured regional politics.
In 2019, Al Rahawi was appointed to the Supreme Political Council, the highest governing body of the Sanaa government.
Israel’s assassination of Prime Minister and his Cabinet
Media reported on Thursday that more than 10 airstrikes had been carried out in Sanaa. It was said that the Israeli Navy also took part in these attacks.
The Israeli regime’s military radio allegedly had several attacks on the building where officials from the Yemeni Ansarla movement are said to be holding meetings. However, it was early announced on Saturday that it was targeted at a “daily workshop held by the government to assess its activities and performance over the past year.”
Following the air strikes, Israeli government media claimed that the commander of an Ansarra government-led military force was attacked by the air strike.
Israeli forces said in a statement that troops on Thursday had attacked military targets in the Sanaa area. There were no immediate reports of victims.
However, Yemen’s official Nasr Al-Din Amer denied reports in Israeli media that the strike targeted Yemeni commanders, including the defense minister and chief of staff.
“What’s going on is that because of their supportive attitude towards Gaza, they’re targeting civilian objects and all Yemen,” he posted on X.
It took two days to confirm on Saturday that Yemen’s Sanaa government was killed in an airstrike in Israel in the capital.
