President Donald Trump is holding a cabinet-level meeting on Thursday night as Israel launched what he called a “first strike” against Iran, a White House official and well-versed sources who are knowledgeable about the plan, told CNN.
The conference was expected to focus on the US response to developing events in Iran, two sources said.

The president’s decision to seek a top-level meeting with his principal came before the strike as U.S. officials were increasingly concerned about the threat.
Asked about a potential strike on Thursday, Trump said it could “suppose very common,” and warned that a “massive conflict” could take place in the region “soon.”
“I don’t want to say it’s imminent, but it can happen very often,” Trump told reporters at an event at the White House.
The White House declined to comment on the meeting Thursday evening.
