First Lady Melania Trump announced the release of an AI-narrated version of her memoir on Thursday, saying she was “fully narrated using artificial intelligence in her own voice” on X.
Calling it a “new era,” Trump added: “Let’s start the future of publishing.”
Trump released her memoir in October 2024, and prior to the release of writing it, he wrote, “It was a deep and reflective journey for me.” AI-generated audiobooks are now available for purchase.
“Melania: Audiobooks are narrated using artificial intelligence audio technology,” says a statement posted on First Lady’s personal website. “The narrator is an AI-generated replica of Melania Trump’s voice created under the direction and supervision of Mrs. Trump.”
The use of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology is the basis of First Ladies’ portfolio during the second term of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
“Artificial intelligence and social media are the next generation of digital candies. They are sweet, addictive and designed to affect cognitive development in children,” she said in her signature statement. “But unlike sugar, these new technologies are weaponized, shaping beliefs, sadly affecting emotions, and even fatal.”
Oren Etioni, professor emeritus of computer science and engineering at the University of Washington and former CEO of the Allen Institute of Artificial Intelligence, said on Thursday that the AI-narrated memoirs are unlikely to pose a risk to the digital identity and ethical difficulties of the first lady who was given a public profile and participation in the project.
“It’s important to distinguish between unconsensual deepfakes and consensual deepfakes. Of course, the first lady has the right to her own voice. “All celebrities are at risk of a deepfake that disagrees, but doing this doesn’t increase the risk that her voice has been “hijacked.” All you need for a deepfake is a sample of her voice, and there are plenty available. ”
Memoirs of AI Narrashing is not the first foray into the digital space of First Ladies. In 2021, Trump announced the sale of NFTs or inappropriate tokens titled “The Vision of Melania.”
CNN reached out to First Lady’s White House office and private rooms for comment.
