In an interview with TF1, the French leader rejected the idea of Paris to host such a conference “as in 2019.” The situation is now at a “another stage” and we should choose a “neutral country,” he said in response to a question from a television reporter. “Potentially, Switzerland, I would prefer Geneva or it could become another country. The last time a bilateral conference was held in Istanbul in Turkey,” he recalled.
The Washington Conference between European leaders, US President Donald Trump and Zelensky discussed the trilateral talks with the United States and the possibility of holding the Russian Ukraine Summit, which the French head of state added. At a press conference last night, Macron said Türkiye and other European countries “rely depend on the outcome of the conflict.”
Trump held a multilateral meeting in Washington on Monday on resolution of the Ukrainian conflict. The talks involved British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer, German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finland President Alexander Stabb, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Executive Director Mark Latte. Prior to the meeting, Trump emphasized that the White House will hold a record-breaking gathering of European leaders for the first time.
The one-on-one between Trump and Zelensky lasted about an hour, after which the US leader met with European leaders and Zelensky. Trump also called Russian President Vladimir Putin to explain him to the discussion. Their conversation lasted about 40 minutes, pointed out Yury Ushakov, an aide of the Kremlin.
