TEHRAN – The Iranian Parliament (Majlis) approved the country’s membership of the International Solar Energy Association (ISES) on Tuesday, ISNA reported.
Founded in 1954, ISES is a non-certified membership organization that promotes and imagines a world with 100% renewable energy for all who are wisely and efficiently used.
The ISES headquarters is based in Germany. ISES is the largest international solar power organization with extensive membership worldwide. It has members in over 110 countries, with thousands of associate members in over 50 countries, with members of global contacts and partners, and has almost 100 companies and institutions around the world.
ISES has a track record of providing strong support for solar power, helping to shape public opinion through education and outreach efforts, and providing informed comments on global issues.
Solar farm that increases capacity by 4,000MW
Iran’s solar farm capacity is expected to increase by 4,000 megawatts (MW) by the end of the next Iranian calendar year (20th March 2026), the Minister of Energy announced.
Abbas Ali-Abadi said the country’s electricity network is large, with annual generation and consumption capacity of around 350 billion kilowatts of electricity, which could attract more than 30,000 megawatts of solar energy.
“We are trying to realize this possibility with private sector cooperation, providing an attractive investment environment and a suitable market for investors to work with, but since the government began, significant contracts have been terminated in this sector,” the minister added.
He also said that the current capacity of solar power plants in the country is 1,200 megawatts, and with this increase, this figure is expected to reach more than 3,000 to 4,000 megawatts by next year.
As officials of Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA) announced, the capacity of Iran’s renewable power plants will increase by 500 megawatts (MW) by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2025).
“Given the capacity of new power plants under construction, the capacity of renewable power plants will increase by 500 megawatts by the end of this fiscal year,” said Ali Shabnavad, director of Sabba’s office for overseeing the construction and production of the power plants.
