Amidst the hostile move, Rubio announced Tuesday that US President Trump has re-entered Yemeni Ansarra on the list of terrorist groups.
In a statement Tuesday, the US Secretary of State said the State Department fulfilled one of President Donald Trump’s early promises shortly after he officially placed Ansarullah on the FTO list and took office.
On January 22, Trump signed Executive Order 14175 to designate the dominant Ansarla movement, claiming that activities supporting Palestinians threatened American civilians and military personnel in the Middle East and destabilised global maritime trade.
Since the start of Israel’s war of massacre with Gaza in October 2023, Ansarra has declared full support for Palestinian ally Hamas, and has launched attacks on Israel-related transport in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
He later said the US and British ships were targets following joint airstrikes by those countries on Yemen.
According to the US State Department, the FTO designation will come into effect at its publication in the federal register on March 4th in the case of Ansarullah.
Meanwhile, Yemeni media reported on Tuesday that a US plane crashed off the coast of Hodeida, Yemen’s main port in the Red Sea. No further details were provided immediately.
The US-led coalition is carrying out airstrikes in Yemen, targeting critical infrastructure, including power plants, ports and international airports in the capital. Air raids have been framed in response to operations in the Red Sea.
