People marched in Europe and beyond over the weekend to condemn Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and demand urgent global action to stop crimes against the Palestinian people. The demonstrations coincided with the United Nations’ International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which comes as the death toll from Israel’s attack on Gaza exceeds 70,000.
In Paris, an estimated 50,000 demonstrators filled the capital’s main boulevards, chanting “Gaza, Gaza, Paris is with you” and “From Paris to Gaza, resist!” Palestinian flags flew high as the crowd denounced what they called “Israeli genocide.” Protesters told Al Jazeera that although people of conscience around the world recognize the brutality of Israel’s wars, justice and accountability remain far away.
In London, organizers reported up to 100,000 participants demanded accountability for Israeli crimes and called for protection for Palestinians still trapped under siege despite a supposed ceasefire. The march echoed cries of liberation and unity, underscoring the growing grassroots pressure in Britain for justice.
Massive demonstrations and trade union-led strikes against Israel’s war have once again rallied in Rome. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese and climate activist Greta Thunberg also attended the rally, raising calls for an end to Israeli impunity. Albanon declared on the X show that Israel is “competing genocide against Palestinians” not only in Gaza but also in the occupied West Bank, and stressed that ethnic cleansing must stop.
Turkey marked the day with a firm show of support, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan pledging continued efforts to ensure a just peace where Palestinians can live in freedom and prosperity.
Despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, Israel continues to occupy more than half of the Gaza Strip and has repeatedly carried out deadly attacks in violation of the agreement. Since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, at least 500 Israeli violations have been recorded and nearly 350 Palestinians have been killed.
