President Donald Trump’s remarks at the University of Alabama were keenly political tones as he promoted his achievements tonight and offered as many jabs to his enemies as he learned from the class of 2025.
“I love this place, maybe it’s because I scored 45 points on Alabama,” Trump exaggerated the margin of victory at Yellowhammer State in 2024, which was about 30 points.
The alumni, their families and Alabama alumni responded overwhelmingly through their speeches, cheering for the president more than former soccer coach Nick Saban, who introduced Trump.
Trump walked over the issue of culture wars, highlighting what he saw as a victory in his first 100 days and received raucous applause when he vowed to “always protect women’s sports.” He touted the administration’s efforts to crack down on immigration, lower egg and energy prices, and increase military recruitment. And he vowed that Americans would “quickly” see the outcome of his tariff policy.
The president noted that he came to Tuscaloosa for “freedom” as he recognized the “difficult high schools” of graduates during the Covid-19 pandemic and praised state leaders for choosing “freedom against lockdown.”
“You are the first graduation class of America’s golden age,” he told the class. He confronted his entire speech, calling it “an exciting time in our country – both extraordinary change and incredible possibilities and incredible growth.”
He repeatedly criticized former President Joe Biden and his description of what he described as a “failed facility.”
“The last four years have not been that good for our country, but don’t scare it, it was extraordinary… we were run by people who have no clue,” he laughed and later denounced the “Biden economy” when he promoted progress against inflation.
Trump asked the audience if they wanted to hear his wisdom for his alumni.
“It had to be more interesting than everything else. It was a little political,” he said.
