TEHRAN – Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani and Spain’s Ambassador to Iran Antonio Sánchez Benedito Gaspar met here on Tuesday to explore ways to boost cooperation, especially in areas related to urban management.
Mehr News Agency reported on Tuesday that Zakani elaborated on Tehran’s management model, saying: “To manage the city, we benefit from the participation of the elite, the community and the people.”
He added that the city administration has been successful in developing the capital, thanks to an eight-fold increase in financial resources over the past four years. “Transportation, environment, air pollution, technology and smart city development will therefore experience fundamental changes in the coming years.”
Zakani said Tehran will become one of the most technologically advanced cities in the future, adding that Tehran, Madrid and Barcelona can promote cooperation in technology, transportation and other fields.
The Spanish envoy emphasized the respectful relationship between the two countries. The official said the Spanish embassy was not closed, unlike other European countries, because “we are interested in interacting with Iran in times of crisis and peace,” referring to recent challenges in Iran, including the 12-day war imposed by Israel on the country.
Sánchez Benedito Gaspar also welcomed the idea of strengthening ties between Tehran, Madrid and Barcelona, and expressed interest in following up on specific areas, especially transport, to develop cooperation.
