TEHRAN – Two hotels in Mazandaran have been awarded the Iran Green Hotel Award as part of the country’s first national event to recognize environmentally sustainable accommodation, state officials said on Sunday.
The announcement coincided with World Tourism Day, when the results of the first Green Hotel Awards were released.
Mehdi Es’haqi, Tourism Director of the Mazandaran Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Bureau, said 12 hotels in Iran were awarded awards after the review.
“Of the roughly 60 hotels that met the criteria, 12 were ultimately selected by a panel of seven judges and verified by two national evaluators. Mazandaran’s share was two hotels.
He added that the award was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Crafts, the Iranian Hotel Management Association and the National Ecotourism Committee. The program is intended to recognize and support hotels that are dedicated to environmental standards.
The formula highlighted that the initiative aims to promote sustainable tourism, strengthen environmental awareness and encourage hotels to meet ecological requirements.
