TEHRAN – A tourism event titled “Mazandaran, the Green Gateway of Iran” has begun with the arrival of tourism experts and social media influencers from Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, the province’s deputy governor for economy and tourism announced on Sunday.
Mohammad Ebrahim Tourai said that as part of efforts to expand “tourism diplomacy” in northern Iran, public information tours for visitors are also being held to introduce Mazandaran’s tourism potential to the international market.
“This program aims to demonstrate the state’s tourism capabilities at a transnational level, within the framework of the development of northern tourism diplomacy,” ISNA quoted Touray as saying on Sunday.
He said Mazandaran’s strategic location on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea and cultural ties with the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) make it suitable as a base for regional engagement.
The official said elsewhere in his remarks that the Mazandaran Week events are designed to combine cultural, economic and media activities to present a realistic and dynamic image of the province. “It highlights its rich natural environment, vibrant economy and authentic cultural heritage.”
Touray said the six-day fam tour will include visits to tourist destinations across eastern, central and western Mazandaran, as well as a specialized meeting to discuss joint tourism routes.
He described the event as a platform to expand cultural and economic cooperation. He said: “The presence of Russian tourism managers and Kazakh influencers (and their Turkmen counterparts) in Mazandaran will introduce a new form of tourism diplomacy that could lead to lasting cooperation in health tourism, ecotourism and the green economy.”
Last month, the ancient village of Candelos in Mazandaran province was named one of the world’s 52 best tourist villages in 2025, praising its rich cultural heritage, historical importance and commitment to sustainable tourism. Located on the lush slopes of the Alborz Mountains, Khanderous is one of the oldest rural settlements in northern Iran. It is famous for its traditional stone houses, handicrafts and hiking trails through the ancient Hyrcanian forest.
This picture-perfect state has long been a very popular destination for domestic travelers. Its diverse natural landscape includes lush Hyrkanian forests, plains, grasslands and rainforests, stretching from the sandy beaches of the Caspian Sea to the rugged, snow-capped Alborz Mountains, including Mount Damavand and Alamkhu (Mount Alam). More than 800 registered historical and cultural sites, 338 kilometers of coastline, mineral springs, waterfalls and caves in the jungles and mountains are the state’s major tourist attractions.
