TEHRAN – The principal of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Bureau of Kordestan marks the first anniversary of the inscription of the UNESCO celebration and has issued the news that the ceremony was held in the historic area of Karaft Caves to commemorate the first anniversary of the inscription of Meilegan, an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Pouria Talebnia told Isna on Monday that the ceremony will be held on Thursday with the participation of art groups and many enthusiasts of Iranian culture and ancient customs in the historic area of Karaftu Cave, Divan-Darreh.
He said holding this fall festival in one of the state’s most outstanding locations is a rare opportunity to commemorate the old Iranian traditions and showcase the state’s cultural and historical capabilities.
He added that the ritual will be held to celebrate autumn equinox and love and friendship, with roots in Iranian history and beliefs, and this year will be held with the cooperation of arts and culture groups and with support from the ruler Divan Darlev and the Arts Centre of the Kordestan Islamic Revolution.

In the world registration of the Melegan Festival on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage between Iran and Tajikistan, Talebnia stated that this world registration marks the high status of Melegan’s rituals in the common culture of Iranian people, and that the preservation of such rituals is the preservation of the historical and cultural identity of the Iranian state.
The Karafut Historic Cave is one of Iran’s most important ancient sites and one of the prominent attractions of Kordestan, with many tourists and researchers holding a unique rock architecture every year.
