World Tourism Day, September 26th, reminds us of the unique and irreplaceable role of tourism in connecting nations, promoting cultural understanding, strengthening social cohesion and promoting economic prosperity. Today, tourism is more than just recreational or economic activity. This is a strategic tool for sustainable development and building a more environmentally friendly and humane future for all societies.
This year’s UN tourism theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Change,” reinforces the future of this industry relies on respect for nature, environmental protection, wise use and responsibility for the needs of future generations. Moving towards green tourism and leveraging innovations to reduce the environmental footprint of your travels is no longer an option. It is a common global need, and Iran is completely committed to this path.
With its unparalleled diversity of climate, rich cultural heritage, unique natural charm and warm hospitality tradition, Iran offers great potential for tourism development. Our diverse ethnic groups, ancient traditions, local and national festivals, and cultural expressions of vibrant artistic events provide a valuable opportunity to present the depth of Iranian identity while strengthening social solidarity. Enhancing domestic tourism around these cultural resources not only stimulates economic growth, but also fosters social vitality, hope and national cohesion.
In line with these principles, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is pursuing the program this year through three important priorities.
Advance green and sustainable tourism – protecting natural resources and protecting our national heritage.
Expanding Smart Tourism – Use new technologies to improve your travel experience and improve efficiency.
Strengthen the power of the community – harness festivals and cultural events to enable meaningful participation in both domestic and international tourism developments.
Realization of these goals calls for synergies and cooperation among all stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector, civil society organizations, academic institutions and, above all, active citizen involvement. By holding our hands, we can shape a bright future for tourism in Iran. A future where this ancient land once again exists as an inspiring destination for the world and as a symbol of peace, friendship, sustainability and transformation.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, I am truly grateful to all those who work tirelessly in this field. I invite all stakeholders to play their part in ‘tourism and sustainable transformation’ and to build greener, more dynamic, more hopeful hope for our country.
