TEHRAN – More than 50 days have passed since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas aimed at ending the war in Gaza went into effect. But for the Palestinians, that promise meant nothing. Israeli shelling continues unabated, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
The tolls are staggering. More than 70,100 Palestinians have been killed and more than 170,000 injured since the war began in October 2023. 360 Palestinians have also been killed since the October 10 ceasefire.
Israel’s actions have stripped the word ceasefire of its meaning. Far from stopping the attacks, military operations continued, destroying homes, overwhelming hospitals, and leaving families in constant grief. For Palestinians, there will be no respite, no safety, only more losses. The continuation of the strike reflects a willful disregard for international agreements and humanitarian law.
The United States also has a responsibility. Washington continues to supply arms and provide political cover at the United Nations. By shielding Israel from liability, the United States guarantees that violations will have no consequences. This is not neutrality, but direct complicity in the ongoing invasion.
For Gaza, this is a familiar story. Ceasefires are declared but rarely respected. Every time, civilians pay the price. Families are evacuated, children grow up in war zones, and hospitals collapse with endless casualties. The silence of the international community intensifies the feeling of abandonment, leaving Palestinians alone to confront the violence.
Every death toll hides a human tragedy. Behind each number lies a stolen future. Mothers are buried, children are silenced, neighbors are erased. These are not statistics to be compiled. Lives deliberately extinguished under bombs and blockades.
The October 10 ceasefire was broken almost immediately. From day one, Gaza continued to be under shelling, proving that the agreement was never kept. This was another example of how international agreements can crumble in the face of Israeli aggression and American protection.
This pattern is systematic. Israel is acting with the knowledge that Washington will protect it diplomatically and arm it militarily. Ceasefires are declared, broken and forgotten, while Palestinians continue to bleed under the illusion of peace.
Until the world confronts this impunity, demands accountability, and ends the protections that enable Israel to act, Gaza will remain under siege. A ceasefire will remain empty words and Palestinians will continue to suffer under promises that will never be kept.
