Yazdani will undergo shoulder surgery after winning a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, skipping the upcoming championship scheduled for September in Zagreb, Croatia, avoiding the risk of a re-examination.
“After consulting with Yazdani, we decided to jointly withdraw from the 2025 World Championships. His shoulders were well healed. Luckily there are no mobility restrictions,” Dr. Sohrab Keyhani said.
“Yazdani is completely satisfied with his condition. Based on our decision, he will focus on returning to the competition without concern,” he added.
Yazdani won a gold medal in the 74kg weight class at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and two silver medals in the 86kg category at the subsequent Olympics (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024).
Yazdani, known as “The Greatest,” is set to continue his career in the 92kg division.
