Tehran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araguchi has appointed Mohammad Reza Barami Takanaki as the new Minister and Director of South Asia Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Bahrami Taqanaki, an experienced diplomat with extensive experience in regional affairs, is the successor to recently retired Rasoul Mousavi.
Baramitakanaki served two terms as Ambassador to Iran in Afghanistan. Additionally, he served as an important consulate position, serving as Iranian consul general in Jalalabad in the previous rules of the Taliban and in Kandahar in 2002.
The announcement came shortly after Araguchi’s recent diplomatic visit to Kabul, marking the first official trip by Iran’s foreign minister since the Afghan admin government came to power. Barami accompanied Araguchi during this one-day visit, highlighting his continued involvement in shaping Iran’s policies towards Afghanistan.
