Thousands of rescuers fought the rain and deep-knee mud, and in a desperate search of survivors, they dug out their homes from under the huge rocks.
“In the banner, at least 150 people are still missing. They could be trapped under the tiled bleeds of the house or wiped out by flooders,” Asfandyar Khattak, head of the Local Disaster Management Bureau of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told AFP.
“Separately, dozens of people have been reported missing in the Shangra district,” he added.
The ongoing rain had made rescue operations extremely difficult, Khattak said.
“There is no electricity or mobile signal in the banner as flash floods damaged the power lines and mobile towers,” he added.
At least 208 people have been killed in the toughest hit Banner district, and “the whole village” has been partially buried, a local rescue spokesman told AFP.
“Surgeries to rescue people trapped under the debris are ongoing,” said Bilal Ahmed Faige, a state rescue agency.
He said about 2,000 rescuers had recovered bodies from the debris and were carrying out relief efforts in nine districts where the rain still hampered heavy efforts.
