Ali Ahmed, a security officer for the nearby Sivis district, said he spoke to Anadolu over the phone and that at least six people were injured when Walta Navada and the Bondeholy district were attacked.
He said two Madarasa teachers and an elderly woman were seriously injured and were rushed to the hospital.
“We don’t know what the actual targets are, but the President’s Palace is located in one of the affected districts, Walta Navada,” he said.
He said Somali security forces reached the scene, imposed restrictions on movement and an investigation is underway into what mortar was used in the attack.
While no group has yet to blame for the mortar attack, al-Qaeda terrorist Al-Shab has insisted similar attacks in the past.
Somalia has been plagued by anxiety for years, but the main threat comes from al-Shabaab and ISIS terrorist groups.
Al-Shabaab has been fighting war against the Somali government for over 16 years, frequently carrying out attacks targeting government officials and military personnel.
