“I sincerely congratulate the patient, courageous and resilient Iraqi people on this unprecedented and great victory that has determined the fate of their homeland and played an effective role in the future of the region,” Ali Akbar Velayati, international relations advisor to Islamic Revolutionary leader Ayatollah Khamenei, said in a message Thursday.
“Iraq is one of the most important and powerful Arab-Islamic countries. With a history of more than 5,000 years, this land is considered one of the founders of human civilization. The magnificent civilization of the Sumerians, formed here, was one of the first manifestations of human civilization in history,” Velayati’s message said.
He added: “The Iraqi people have played a very important role in the flourishing of Islamic civilization. For centuries, this country has been one of the great scientific centers of the Islamic world. Since the beginning of Islamic history, the Iraqi people have always been lovers and followers of Ahl al-Bayt and have made great sacrifices in its form.”
“The blessed presence of the Imam’s holy shrine here today demonstrates the depth and unity of the faith of the Iraqi people. To be fair, all tribes and sects of Iraq, including Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds, have a special interest in protecting the sanctity of Arul Bayt,” Velayati added.
“The noble people of Iraq have once again shown that they are the true inheritors of their great civilization and their faith. The passionate, sound and peaceful conduct of the elections in recent days is a sign of the political and social maturity of the Iraqi state. In this respect, they have become an example for the countries of the region.”
“It is hoped that this historic election, unique in Iraq, will send a clear message to the enemies of the Iraqi state that no foreign power can interfere in determining the fate of this great and important country,” the Iranian leadership aide added.
“The relations between Iran and Iraq are based on deep historical, cultural, religious and civilizational similarities not found between any other two countries in the region. There is no doubt that cooperation between these two brotherly nations has a bright and prosperous future,” Velayati’s message concluded.
