TEHRAN – The winners of the 6th Mustafa (PBUH) Awards were announced at a press conference held at the Mustafa Awards office in Tehran on Tuesday.
Mehmet Toner is a Turkish professor of biomedical engineering at Harvard University. Vahab Mirokuni, assistant professor at the Coolant Institute at New York University in Iran. Mohammad K. Nazeeruddin, professor of chemistry at EPFL on the Sion campus, India, has received the prestigious award.
Mustafa Award (PBUH) 2025
The sixth Mustafa Awards Week will be held in Tehran from September 6th to 10th. This week’s highlight is the sixth Mustafa Awards ceremony, which will be held at Vahdat Hall on September 8th.
This week we will showcase academic programs and outreach events under the title step alongside the 13th Mustafa Prize Policy Council, the Third Advisory Committee of the Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation, the WAQF seminar, science and technology development, the gala dinner banquet in the Iranian International Innovation Zone, and the science and technology development, the scientific ceremony, the presentation ceremony for the young science science medal.
Mustafa Award background
To appreciate renowned scientists and provide a basis for scientific cooperation and development around the world, the Mustafa Award was founded in 2012 as a symbol of scientific excellence at the international level.
The Mustafa Award, the Top Science and Technology Award, is awarded to top researchers and scientists in the Islamic world every other year in three years, and is divided into three categories: Life and Medical Science and Technology, Information and Communication Science and Technology, and Basic and Engineering Science.
The award is given to works that are deemed to have improved human life, for making concrete, cutting-edge innovations to the boundaries of science, or for presenting new scientific methodologies.
Winners in each category will receive USD 500,000. The winners will be decorated with special medals and certificates.
Twenty percent of Mustafa Awards are featured in the following categories:
• Awarded research grants to recipients to present to researchers in Islamic countries
• Awarded sabbatical grants to recipients to present to researchers in Islamic countries
• Award recipients travel grants for participating in events organized by the Mustafa Science and Technology Foundation or other events organized in Islamic countries.
• Grants to recipients for publishing articles with researchers from Islamic countries
• Grants to recipients for joint projects in Islamic countries
• Grants to recipients to establish science centres in Islamic countries
• Grants to recipients for admission to graduate students from Islamic countries
• Grants to recipients for membership and plays a role in the scientific society of Islamic countries.

Ju’s criteria
The award evaluation committee first evaluates the general characteristics and qualifications of the “work” and then sends the selection to the scientific committee.
•Submitted works should not be awarded any other international awards.
•In the final step, a group of seven well-known researchers and scholars examine the work and select one according to the following criteria:
Characteristics of the work
This task must be particularly innovative and excellent. You need specific applications and tangible results with specified reasons for its importance.
The impact of work
This work should have already been to advance the frontier of knowledge. It should have also had a major regional or global impact. The results should be published in the form of scientific theory or the possibility of production and wealth generation. Additionally, it should have a visible impact on the economy, culture, society, health, the environment, and/or public welfare. This work must also be shared in addressing scientific and technical needs and solving social problems.
Owner of the work
The owner of the work (candidate) must have a high scientific profile and a high reputation. This manifests in the number and quality of his/her publications, innovations, patents, etc. Candidates should also have an innovative and holistic scientific spirit.
