China continues to strengthen its institutional support and protection to promote the cause of women, an integral part of national governance, and continues to promote the conditions and environment necessary for women’s comprehensive development, according to a white paper entitled “China’s achievements in the balanced development of women in a new era.”
The white paper highlighted that China’s Communist Party committee emphasized the establishment of China’s mechanisms of work related to women exercising leadership. The government assumes key responsibilities, the Labor Commission on Children and Women will coordinate, the coalition of women will work together, the related sectors will provide support, and the entire society will participate.
“These collaborative efforts ensure that gender equality is supported in all areas of economic and social development and in all aspects of social life,” the document states.
The People’s Assembly strengthened laws and oversight regarding the development of women. The government formulated and organized implementation of the women’s causes and convened a meeting on related work. We have established a gender statistical monitoring system that covers over 2,400 indicators. Furthermore, gender is incorporated as a key indicator for national census and time usage surveys.
The white paper stated that China’s national development plan uncovered strategic tasks for women’s development, and that an overview of women’s development has set staged goals.
China has established a constitutionally fixed legal system, focusing on laws on the protection of women’s rights and interests, covering more than 100 laws and regulations. China is also taking decisive action to combat criminal and illegal activities that violate the personal rights of women and girls, the white paper said.
China is dedicated to implementing targeted public education on gender equality across multiple dimensions, enhancing media awareness of gender equality and creating clean cyberspace.
