BEIRUT — Meanwhile, Lebanese anti-resistance teams have launched a low-level campaign calling for Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s highest security council, to visit Beirut on Wednesday.
Observers warned that attempts to prevent Larijani from visiting Beirut would encounter an angry, popular backlash.
Instead of mobilizing to condemn Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that “Israel supported the Lebanese government in its efforts to disarm Hezbollah,” Nawaf Salam’s government is busy considering the idea that it did not apologise for not receiving Larijani in protest of the official Iranian statement in support of resistance.

Saudi Arabia’s Yazid bin Fahan is reportedly behind a campaign to cancel Larijani’s visit, in conjunction with Nawaf Salam and Lebanese military leader Samir Gigea.
However, Salam fails to persuade Aoun to not receive the Rarijani. President Joseph Own rejected the request, believing it was exceeding all diplomatic standards.
